Onion juice is more effective on men than on women, but it helps all in hair growth.

Before you learn how onion juice stops hair loss, it will be worthwhile to understand how hair forms and grows on the scalp.

How Hair Grows on The Scalp

Hair is a simple structure made of tough protein called keratin. Hair bulbs made of living cells build the hair shaft stemming out of hair follicle. Blood vessels provide nutrition and hormones to the cells in the hair bulb to impart growth in the different stages of the lifecycle of hair.

Hair passes through 3 stages in its lifecycle before it falls and a new hair grows in its place.

  1. Anagen - This is growth phase in which a hair stays for several years.
  2. Catagen - This is a transitional phase in which hair stays for a few weeks, hair growth slows and hair follicle shrinks.
  3. Telogen - This is the striving phase in which hair stays for months, hair growth stops, hair falls and a new hair grows in the hair follicle.

When sufficient nutrients are not received, then the new hair doesn't grow in the telogen phase. This is the beginning of loss and resulting hair thinning.

How Onion Juice Stops Hair Loss and Propels Growth

Onion juice is one of the old grandma's remedy to stop hair loss. There are not many scientific studies which can prove the case. However, one study has found onion juice as effective topical therapy for patchy Alopecia areata - a patchy, non-scarring hair loss condition.

Since it has been found useful in one specific hair loss contiondition, it might be useful in other hair loss situations also. The ancient practice and the positive Alopecia results makes a case for using onion juice to stop hair loss.

Onion juice is rich in sulfur and the hair protein keratin is also made of sulfur, many believes that hair growth occurs due to sulfur.

If you are allergic to sulfur or onion juice (though rare but possible) then do not use onion juice on your scalp.

How to Use Onion Juice

It is important to know how to use onion juice for hair growth. If you use it wrongly then you will end up messing up your hair. Many people crush onions in a blender and then use the paste on hair. Removing the past becomes difficult from the hair. Therefore, don't use the paste. Strain the paste and extract the juice for use.

  • Take one big size onion
  • Cut it in small pieces and then put in in a blender to make paste
  • Take a fine strainer and strain the paste to extract the juice in a bowl
  • Apply on your entire scalp by parting the hair
  • Massage the scalp for 5 minutes for the onion juice to get in the hair follicles
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it for 30 minutes.
  • Wash your hair with mild shampoo and rinse
  • Pat your hair dry with a towel

You can apply onion juice 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks to see results. Continue using it.

Getting back the luster of hair on your scalp is a great youthful feeling. The trouble is well worth it.
