There are many different types of vomiting requiring different types of treatments. Following are the different types of vomiting classified based on root causes of vomiting:
1. Drug/ Treatment Induced Type Vomiting.
Cancer treatment like chemotherapy and radiology and certain drugs like some antibiotics induce vomiting. The chemotherapy induced vomiting can come in stages.
Acute nausea and vomiting will occur almost immediately after chemo procedure is completed. This type of vomiting doesn't require any treatment as it disappears within the first 24 hours.
Depending on the type of chemo, a delayed vomiting cycle may begin from 24 hours and can last for a week. This king of acute vomiting requires re-hydration as a lot of body fluids are lost.
Anticipatory vomiting may happen as a result of previous experience. Nothing much can be done about it except stop thinking about it.
Sometimes changing the type of chemo can reduce the occurrences of vomiting.
2. Endocrine Type Vomiting
Early stages of Pregnancy fall under this type of vomiting. Over half of the pregnant suffer from this condition. This usually starts from the 6th week of being pregnant and can last up to the period of 12 weeks of pregnancy. Some women may feel nausea and vomiting until the 20th week or longer.
There is nothing to worry about as it is a common case. However, severe bouts of vomiting may require attention as you are losing essential fluids and nutrients.
Certain precautions can really help reducing the occurrences. Eat less portions of food but eat more frequently. Don't remain hungry especially in the early morning. have a couple of crackers at least.
3. Labyrinth Disorder Type Vomiting
Motion sickness can induce nausea and vomiting. Motion sickness is observed as a result of exposure to unfamiliar or uncontrolled motion. This motion can be real or simulated. Another Labyrinth disorder is Meniere's disease which induces vomiting.
4. Infectious Type Vomiting.
Certain infection induce it. Gastroenteritis and viral labyrinthitis are the most common.
5. Increased Intracranial Pressure Type Vomiting
Many types of Hemorrhage can induce it. Also Meningitis induced vomiting falls under this category.
This can be dangerous forewarning of serious condition. Meningitis require immediate medical attention.
Risk of only trying out home remedies and not visiting the doctor must be avoided. You can avoid home remedies but no the medical attention.
6. Post - Operative Type Vomiting
Certain Procedural issues in the operations can cause vomiting. Uses of Anesthetics and Analgesics in surgery can induce it.
These are temporary occurrences. It subsides after one or two occurrences. Avoid home remedies at this time because if it was a surgical treatment of the intestine or the food tract then, let the expert handle it in their supervision.
7. CNS Type Vomiting
These are anticipatory type vomiting induced by anxiety. Other stress related conditions that induce it are Bulimia nervosa and Migraine.
